Andalusian sun

posted Thursday, 9 October 2003

Szymanowski has been on the blog for so long, that I got really tired of it. I can finally log in and I'm afraid I'll have to post a lot to make up for time lost.

My musical suggestion this time is Isaac Albéniz and his Iberian Suite. There are some sites where we can hear a little of his music for free, but the recordings are not so spectacular. Still, it is good to have a way of hearing some piece or composer before one decides to buy. I would like to suggest El Albaicin, Malagueña and Triana. All of these bring alive the warmth and the passion of Andalucia in Southern Spain and make us pictures ourselves under the torrid sun of Seville.

The Classical Music Archives is a great site for listening to Albeniz piano pieces (there is a limit of five pieces a day!), but the best option, by far, is buying the real music, played by Alicia de Larrocha. And here is a small idea of what she is like playing Albéniz. Ok, never mind web samples, just get the CD.
