Yesterday I saw a movie that caught me totally by surprise. It is the 2002 movie by Stephen Frears Dirty Pretty Things. The film directing is outstanding and the cast impressive. The story actually makes a difference and reminds us what role the film industry could have in making our world a better place. Definitely a movie not to miss. I won't go into the plot details because as a imdb reviewer has said the best thing is to see the movie without any knowledge of the plot. Let's just say it is a realistic thriller that takes place in London in the underworld of illegal immigrants.
The cast is lead by Chiwetel Ejiofor, a wonderful actor whose career seems to have boosted after this film. His powerful and meaningful countenance are haunting as the lead character Okwe. Two interviews: here and here. Andrey Tautou is the lead actress, more widely known by the hit movie Amelie. Her work in Dirty Pretty Things is outstanding and makes Senay come to life as a real person that could be walking the streets of New Yorlk today. All the other actors are great but I need to mention Sophie Okonedo, a beautiful woman with great acting experience on screen and on stage that has seen her work recognized by being nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Hotel Rwanda.
