Yesterday I saw Don't Move, an Italian film by Sergio Castellitto, starred by himself and Penelope Cruz.
Don't Move has been a huge success in Italy and both Sergio and Penelope have been awarded prizes for their roles (read a good article about it here).
I did like the film or at least some aspects of it. Penelope Cruz plays the most incredible role and to be honest, if her name hadn't been on the cover I wouldn't have realized it was her until almost the end of the film. Her performance is perfect, I bet this role was very satisfying because it seems to be all about acting. She literally becomes someone else, in this case the misfortunate Italia.
Sergio Castellitto does a wonderful job as an actor and as a director, despite the fact that his character is so disgusting. It was the story that really bothered me: a common story of doctor meets poor younger destitute girl and falls in love but isn't able to defy society and sticks to his wife. (Except that here he rapes her too and pays for sex and...). A common, old, old story. Penelope saved the day, Sahara is forgiven.
Two interesting quotes:
- You will never forgive me, will you?
- God will never forgive you, not me.
- God does not exist, my dear.
- Well, let's hope not.
- Those who love you are always present, even before you met them.
