The Mamiraua Reserve, in Brazil, lies is in the heart of flooded forest at the confluence of two rivers. Every year the water level rises up to 12 meters. Together with the Pantanal, this is the largest wet area in the world.
Funny to think that such a place can be actually visited. Jungle lovers can stay at a floating lodge for $380 (Tuesday to Saturday) and for $320 (Saturday to Tuesday), flights not included. Some have said the lodge is far too civilized for this kind of place but I supposed confortable rooms bring more funds to the reserve than a shack. More information on ecotourism here. More on the lodge here. Reserve map.
This place has to be a photographer's dream. The organization Ecotourism Marimauá boasts "In 1999 the Marimauá Ecotourism Program hosted a number of reporters and film crews including the CNN team, the BBC, TV Espanhola, Correio Braziliense, Veja Magazine and, recentle, Terra Magazine." For $320 it could be my photos, your photos.
