Sister Isabel Langa wrote a letter to all the people involved in the sponsorship of children from the Dominican School in Xai Xai, Mozambique. Being one of those people (we are around 50 people), I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to post this letter for other people to know what a small help can do:
Dear Sponsors,
We want to give some news about the children you sponsor. "One small gesture, a big help", yes. I don't know how to express in words the joy and happiness we feel when we see the children that used to be so discriminated against in school to be equal to others now, and at the same time different, for the way they dress. This year, the children weren't humiliated as usual, they all have their schoold uniforms, school supplies and all the demands of the schools are satisfied. [In African schools, children are required to wear uniforms. This keeps many children out of school because they can't afford the uniform.] We are helping them in their studies: they are moving along with some difficulties, which is not too strange because we work with children that face several problems. The important is that they are treated the same as other children with the same rights and duties. Some children will pass. That will make us all very happy. "One small gesture, a big help", great joy, great happiness, great...
As far as food is concern, we now have some variety. We are not waiting for the festive days (Easterm Christmas, the Children's Day) to eat rice, improvement in food is obvious.
This is what we honestly want to tell all the sponsors. We don't want to keep it for ourselves, we can't, we have come to share this with all that support us in making this project come true. Our gratitude. With you, we will still see many changes in our children.
We are, after all, your instrument to make the children receive your big support, big help and sharing, big generosity, big service, big love for the less fortunate children.
God bless you and your family, the greatest blessings and grace. A big hug from your children and ourselves,
Sister Isabel Langa
