I seldom pick up this kind of theme, but a somewhat recent letter to the editor of the Topeka Capital Journal by Stephen Lachowsky is worth mentioning. First of all, because it shows a healthy sense of humor and then because its contents are surprising for Topeka, a bastion of creationism.
The story is that somer person there wants science books to have a sticker warning that evolution is a "theory, not a fact". (!!!) Can't people see how totally funny this is to the world? Topeka has become a presence in comic strips and political satire in the US and around the globe. I wonder if that is what Topekans are aiming for.
Anyway, Lachowsky picked the idea and wanted to give it a wider use, so he suggests a sticker on the Bible with the following parental advisory: Warning - This product contains tales of extreme violence and sexual immorality. Parents are strongly advised to keep it away from children under 18". Another sticker he suggests would say: "The existence of God is a theory, not a fact!"
I think he actually makes a good point. There is no question that "God is a
theory" sense people are often too quick to say "it's obvious he doesn't
exist". However, most people, if you ask them, will tell you Evolution is a
fact when IN FACT there is no more provable evidence than that of God.
