Today has been a very, very happy day for me as I have been visited by Sister Isabel Langa from the Dominican school for children in need from Xai Xai, Mozambique. I have been the sponsor of one of the kids there, Celio, and it was wonderful to hear from him and his family. His studies went well and he will be promoted to the next grade in school, his mother and family are also well and will have a new house soon. I have learned how he has enjoyed the things I have been sending and how I can help more. It was truly a happy event.
It was also great to hear from Sister Isabel all the needs of her school and what the projects for the future are. She has said how grateful everyone there is for the help they get because all this children would have no where to go if it wasn't for the school. Not many people care about them and even though Mozambique is improving, the weakest side is still and always the poor children, many of them orphaned by AIDs.
The next project for the school is to buy a corn grinding machine that will help provide for the meals of the 300 children who have their daily meal at the school. The grinder costs about $4000, but we are sure that a little help from here and there will make this new dream possible. I am now trying to get together all my contacts and emails and will be sending some information about this as soon as possible. Corn grinding there is still done by hand, as portrayed in so many African paintings, a grinder is a simple thing but it makes a huge difference. If you're interested in helping, please email me (contact in Breaking the Ice on the left). I will be posting more information as I have it. Thanks for your interest and for reading this posting!
