Chrystiakov is a young Belarusian artist who's lived in New York since 2003. His work is very interesting and I can see how Belarus became a small place for him. The Belarusian art scene is relatively small, but most of all it is hampered by a small dictator that has been clinging to power for 10 years. After the fall of the U.R.S.S., small pockets of resistance are still there. Belarus is one of them, Uzbekistan another. And I found Nikolai prompted by Time Magazine article "Where Tyranny Rules". Here's another good political overview, may the cornflower revolution begin!
