Célio, my boy from Mozambique

posted Friday, 15 April 2005

As I learn more about Célio, the boy from Mozambique I sponsor, the more I want to help him and his family. Célio has written me twice but this last time I also got a letter from his mother. She is a widow and has 3 children: Cecilia, 12, Célio, 9 and  Criginalda, a one year old baby girl. She says times are difficult now that her husband died. I don't know what she does but I can certainly imagine how tough it must be raising 3 kids by herself. Fortunately Célio and Cecília are in the Dominican Nuns School and that is how they became "adopted". Hopefully life will not carry them away from the school or the nuns. As long as they are there, the kids will have at least 2 meals a day and they will go to school in the morning. I've been told that the meals is what keeps them coming back to Escolinha do André, run by the Dominican nuns of Xai Xai. I show a little bit more of the kids in the photos above, taken by my cousin Sara when she visited the school again last February.

If, by any chance, you want to help this family, send money or whatever you suspect they might need to:
Irmã Isabel Langa (Familia de Célio Boca)
Irmas Dominicanas de Santa Catarina de Sena
Caixa Postal 211
Xai Xai - Gaza
Mozambique

If you want to send aything at all, the best is to use envelopes because boxes are sometimes "detoured" by the customs agents or by the post office officials. It's not exactly the US Postal Service and federal offenses don't really matter there.

Thank you for even reading this post. More information on Célio and my other boys here (Célio), here (Michel), here (Vicente) and here (about the Xai Xai school).
