Google's Sitemap

posted Monday, 10 October 2005

I have been toying with Google's Sitemap, it seems awfully esoteric for all the non-programmers but it turns out to be simpler than it seems. It's basically to offer google your site's sitemap, it could be just the rss or atom feed, so that Google can better crawl through your page. What a bonus from Google, when most of the significant hits come from that mega search engine. The catch, small, is you have to log in to Google with a gmail account. Google offering you more hits in exchange for your small contribution of signing in Google mail or any other services. At the moment there is already a big number of small applications and websites offering Google sitemaps. I would just urge blog-city to include this feature in their already wide span of options. (I also tried to verify my account with Google, but there was no way I could figure how to post the verification file they wanted onto my page).

All for more hits. I still don't know how different the traffic through here will be, haven't notice any major change. The three last big increases in traffic were generated by joining blogexplosion, by adding tags to all the entries and by such a simple thing as including the entire entry within the RSS feeds (a blog-city feed option), as suggested by Levi.

Here are some links for Google Sitemap related info: how tohow does it work and more here.
