Mia Couto will be on the blog over and over again. He is a young Mozambican author who will most likely continue to surprise his readers with fenomenal books. A new book, a collection of newspapers articles, has been published last May in Mozambique, it will take time to reach English speaking readers.
His most amazing books are Under the Frangipani, Every Man is a Race, Voices made Night and A Sleepwalking Land, his first novel, still waiting for an English translation. Curiously, this book has been translated into French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, German, Greek and Bulgarian. Is there such a small market for "world literature" in the States?
Africa makes headlines for Presidential visits, war and hunger, not for books.
